Welcome to Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health

The Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) (formerly known as Factory Inspectorate) is administrative machinery set up by Govt. of Maharashtra with an objective of enforcing the Factories Act, 1948 & Maharashtra Factories Rules, 1963 made there under so as to ensure Safety, Health and Welfare of the workers employed in the factories. With the growing industrialisation amendments were made in the Factories Act, 1948 & Maharashtra Factories Rules, 1963 made there under from time to time.
The department was given the responsibility of enforcement of certain provisions of The Manufacture, Storage and Import of Hazardous Chemicals Rules, 1989, The Chemical Accidents (Emergency Planning, Preparedness and Response) Rules, 1996, The Maharashtra Factories (Control of Industrial Major Accidents Hazards) Rules, 2003. Considering the new role of the department as a friend, philosopher and guide, Factory Inspectorate was renamed as Directorate, Industrial Safety and Health and designation of the Inspectors were changed to Directors since June 1991.

The labour movement started at the end of the eighteenth century in Maharashtra under leadership of two greatest visionaries Late Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Late Narayan Meghaji Lokhande. Labour legislations being the part of social securities, this department follows the guidelines issued by International Labour Organization (I.L.O.) in form of various conventions from time to time.

Safety, Welfare and Health of all workers in factory premises is paramount to us. Therefore, we are absolutely committed to curtail the imminent injuries, casualties and health hazards at workplace to ultimate level and best of our satisfaction. This will help in catering the productiveness of the industries.
